Benefits of Massage

Benefits of Massage

  • Dilates or opens up blood vessels, improving circulation and relieving congestion.

  • Increases the number of red blood cells, especially in cases of anemia.

  • Relaxes muscle spasms and relieves tension.

  • Increases the blood supply and nutrition to muscles without adding to the load of toxic lactic acid that is produced by voluntary muscle contraction: thereby helping to overcome harmful fatigue products resulting from strenuous exercise or injury.

  • Improves muscle tone and helps prevent or delay muscle atrophy resulting from forced inactivity.

  • Can compensate, at least in part, for lack of exercise and muscular contraction in persons who because of injury or illness are forced to remain inactive. In these cases, massage helps return venous blood to the heart and so eases the strain to this vital organ.

  • That separates muscle fibers is transverse friction. Transverse friction prevents the formation of adhesions.

  • May have a sedative, stimulating or even exhausting effect on the nervous system depending on the type and length of massage treatment given.

  • Improves the general circulation and nutrition of tissue. It is followed by an increased interchange of substances between the blood and tissue.

  • Increases the excretion (via the kidneys) of fluids and nitrogen, inorganic phosphorous and salt in normal individuals.

  • Encourages the retention of nitrogen, phosphorous and sulphur necessary for tissue repair in persons convalescing from bone fractures.

  • Stretches connective tissue, improves it's circulation and nutrition and so breaks down the formation of adhesions and reduces the danger of fibrosis.

  • Improves the circulation and nutrition of joints and hastens the elimination of harmful particles. It helps lessen inflammation and swelling in joints and in doing so can alleviate pain and stiffness.

  • Helps eliminate edema (or dropsy) of the extremities.

  • Disperses the edema following injury to ligaments and tendons, lessens pain and facilitates movement.

  • Empties the larger ducts and channels and so decreases the auto- intoxication resulting from the re-absorption of toxic materials in these channels resulting from inflammation or constipation.
